discusses the affairs of state with the men who governed the Republic.
When Veronica Franco comes of age, she cannot marry the man she loves, Marco
Venier, because she is well born but penniless. Her options: nunnery or
courtesan. She chooses to be a Courtesan and becomes the best. This is her
